An assessment gives you a clear picture

A switchboard is central to your electrical installation, but its age alone does not tell the whole story. An inspection can identify the protection in place, the condition of the equipment and whether it suits your present needs.

There are several sensible reasons to arrange a check. None requires you to remove a cover or investigate wiring yourself.

1. Older fuse equipment

If your installation has older rewireable fuses, ask an electrician to explain its condition and protection. Do not alter fuse wire or attempt to bypass a device that keeps operating.

2. Uncertainty about safety switches

Safety switches and circuit breakers perform different protective roles. If you are unsure what your board contains, a licensed electrician can identify it and explain whether changes are appropriate.

3. Repeated trips

A protective device that repeatedly trips is a reason to get help. Avoid repeatedly resetting it. The fault could be in equipment, wiring or another part of the installation; the symptom alone is not a diagnosis.

4. Visible damage or signs of overheating

Keep away from damaged equipment and do not touch a fitting to check whether it is hot. Burning smells, unusual sounds or scorch marks need attention. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, move to safety and call 111.

5. A new electrical load

Before adding an EV charger, heat pump or other significant appliance, have the supply and available capacity assessed. Planning the electrical work before purchase helps avoid surprises during installation.

What happens next?

Tell us what you have noticed and what you want to change. We can inspect, explain the findings and quote for the work required. Sometimes a targeted improvement is sufficient; other properties need a broader upgrade.
